Service Description

Japanese Encephalitis is prevalent in Eastern and Southern Asia and is transmitted by mosquitos who bite livestock and then bite humans. The incubation period starts from around 5 days, and initial symptoms include fever, headache and nausea progressing to meningoencephalitis (swelling of the lining of brain) with convulsions and altered consciousness. Of those who develop encephalitis, approximately 30% die. In those who survive, it is estimated that 30-50% will develop long term neurological or psychiatric problems. Two doses are required for a full course, ideally starting 28 days before travel (although rapid schedules are also available)
